Amy Foster Berntsen

Amy Foster Berntsen began her ballet training with Patricia Bromley in Atlanta, Georgia and completed her studies with School of American Ballet in New York City. She danced professionally with Miami City Ballet for five years and as a principal dancer with American Repertory Ballet under Septime Webre. Amy joined Ballet West as demi soloist in 1998 and was a principal with Diablo Ballet in 2005-2006. She was the School Director at The Dance Institute of Washington, instructed for Miami City Ballet, Peaches School of Dance and Miami Children’s Museum. Ms. Berntsen is a Master barre instructor. Her barre classes consist of interval training, core strengthening and stretching using the disciplines of a ballet, Pilates and yoga. Amy has a passion for teaching and she devotes herself entirely to the wellness of her students. In 2012, Amy became a 200- hr RYT (registered yoga teacher) after completing the Inner Balance Vinyasa Yoga Teacher Training Program. She is also a certified Gyrotonic trainer in the Miami area. 



Amy Foster Berntsen instructs the following:
  • Express Barre
  • A 45 minute express barre class. The perfect fusion of Pilates, Yoga, Weight training and Ballet. Sculpt your body from head to toe with a mixture of dance moves, isometric and targeting bar exercises.

  • Flow Yoga
  • A fun and dynamic yoga class. Expect to flow between poses and be challenged with powerful Vinyasa sequences. Modifications and more challenging variations will be given for the asanas to address the different levels in class.

  • Pilates/Barre Fusion
  • Half Barre and half Pilates- this is the ideal class for people who want to strengthen and tone their whole body using traditional barre and ballet exercises while incorporating the precision, control and core-work of Pilates.

  • Fusion Flow
  • This dynamic new class draws upon the disciplines of floor barre, yoga, and gyrokinesis to increase strength, flexibility and range of motion.  Classes will include core work and strength training sequences with weights or bands.
